Kinesiology taping is used to help with acute pain. Kinesiology taping is not used for long-term management of pain or injuries but is excellent for assisting recovery and quick relief. It is specifically designed and applied to the area to lift the skin off the surface of the pain/injury to reduce the pressure in the area and ease pain. Due to the tape being waterproof it can be left on for up to 5 days and resulting in 24 hours a day relief – allowing patients to continue doing the things they love without constricting or restricting movement.

All of the above can be done by our Spinal and Rehabilitation Therapist. The only time you will be seeing someone different would be if you are needing deep or sports massage to help with the treatment you are already having.

01. What is the purpose of kinesiology tape?
The Kinesiology Taping Method is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body's natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body's range of motion
02. Can kinesiology help arthritis?
Kinesiology tape helps with pain and function in knee arthritis. ... A recent study has found that kinesiology tape can improve the peak force of the quadriceps in a group of people with knee osteoarthritis, as well as improving functional tasks.
03. When should I consider kinesiology tape as treatment?
You can apply kinesiology tape immediately after you feel pain, as pain is a perception from stimuli that tells the brain to immediately start either a healing process or protect itself so it will reduce the intensity of the inflammatory cascade of events. Kinesiology tape can be applied before ice. If you ice and then put the tape on, the adhesive in the glue won’t stick as well to the skin so you’d need to heat the glue to activate it, thereby negating the cold therapy because you have to ‘heat’ the glue to activate it.
04. How does kinesiology tape benefit injury rehabilitation?
Kinesiology tape can help with fluid movement because the elastic recoil of the tape ‘lifts’ the skin, which increases the space underneath to allow for lymphatic drainage. Your lymph system is a systemic whole-body system that helps with moving fluids into and out of the area. The lymphatic system sits just under the skin, so when you put the tape on it helps to clear an area of swelling. Increased lymphatic drainage helps with tissue healing, which helps speed up the healing process. You can wear it in the shower and while sleeping, so it’s providing therapeutic treatment 24/7.
