Nutrition with Don Gordon at The Hub

Nutrition is the fundamental role in the life we live, good nutrition and bad nutrition can make the biggest impact to the quality of our life’s for years to come. When seeking help from a nutritionist it’s important to know what it is that you want to achieve. It could possibly be generic things that a nutritionist can help with such as: lose weight, gain weight, build muscle or it could be more complex matters such as: change during later stages of life (menopause), stomach irritation/pain, skin conditions, bloating, rheumatoid arthritis to name a few.

Don Gordon holds a BSc (Hons) in Nutritional Science and is The Hub’s Nutritionist.His passion is working with people suffering with medical conditions that are affecting their life or the ability to do something they love. So much so, Don has written a book on ‘How to reverse type II diabetes.’ He hopes to continue along the book publishing path with other medical conditions. He is also the Chairman of a UK rare disease research charity that helps families affected by a rare epilepsy syndrome.Don works on the biophysical aspect at a complex level to find out the root cause. He has a keen interest in helping people continue to do what they enjoy or are passionate about. It may be to carry on with a sport, a particular hobby or it can be as simple as having the ability and energy to walk to their local shops, play with their grandchildren, be free from pain. Whatever the goal big or small, Don is here to help.People that seek nutritional help may have exhausted primary medication, but looking at what you put through the body, to fuel the body is vital.

Don has over a decade of experience helping people realise that good healthy nutrition does not have to be life limiting.Don has been teaching, creating and consulting individuals and groups on how to achieve and maintain optimum health. The understanding that nutrition doesn’t mean you can’t eat the food you want, but it’s about having a good balance. There are a variety of ways in which nutrition can help, it all starts with a consultation to understand where you are currently at, and where you want to be, and then how to get you there. At first you made make an appointment, after this stage we still encourage face-to-face appointments but it can also be done online using skype or zoom. Often this is the case when clients are travelling and still require the support. We do however, recommend face-to-face.For Don’s own personal nutrition, he chooses to limit the amount of animal products from his diet and promotes organic foods. This is Don’s own personal chose but works with the client’s own wants, and needs, provides you with the information you need to make an informed decision. He practices being able to gain as much nutrition’s from your food without having to supplement but Don also appreciates that in the world we live today, it often is not possible so Food Grown supplements are talked about.Nutrition is different for every person especially when there are personal and religious beliefs also tastes, allergies and intolerances. It is all bespoke here at The Hub.

Don can see you for ad-hoc nutritional sessions, where you have your consultation and, make changes and then follow-up. This can work on a 4/6/8/10/12 week basis.

The bodies health starts from within, at the gut. Gut health. Don looks at the chemical level of foods down to it’scellular compound and what it does within the body and how it’s processed. Don can help with food diaries, looking at your current food diary and daily activity, with foods that you like, dislike and foods that you are allergic or intoralant to (if known). Don will do a diary that takes into account your lifestyle and time and job, what is realistic.

Don can also help with cooperate health seminars. This would be useful to any business regardless of size that feels it would benefit from a health talk during the companies, lunch break or cooperate days. It can be moulded to reflect whatever the results the company would like. Establishing healthy habits in and outside the workplace, the importance of water and hydration on energy levels and top tips on how to maintain a happy and healthy workforce. Regular stretches that can be done in the comfort of your seat or within a 5 minute break to keep you focussed and energised for the reminder of the day. What can I expect when seeking help for nutrition?

Don will:

  • Brief consultation on the phone, asking questions to establish if it’s something we can help with at The Hub.
  • After the appointment is booked in, you will receive a confirmation text message and an email.
  • With the email address provided, Don will send you some forms to fill and print out prior to your arrival.
  • Don will also establish whether you will require a 30 minute consultation or a 60 minute consultation for your first appointment. Depending on the findings from that appointment Don will determine what course of action to be taken, it is up to the client what they want to do. Don works with you to get the best results that will benefit the clients for years to come.

Further tests and services Don provides:

CoreTen – Core Ten Test – (Iron, Vit D, Calcium, Protein, Magnesium, B12, Thyroid, Folate, Sodium, Albumin)

– This includes the test (blood test) and ONE follow-up appointment for 30 minutes to discuss results and the changes that Don suggests to make according to the results found. Then it is optional if they wish to return at a later date for further help. Recommended would be to visit 3 months after your results to discuss your progress, the challenges you are facing and symptoms. Any further follow-up charges in addition to this are chargeable at £35.00 a session. *The tests can include other vitamins to test depending on your requirements so the above ^ does not need to be the 10 set vitamins).

Intolerance – Food Intolerance Testing

– This includes the test (blood test) and TWO follow-up appointments for 30 minutes each. The first appointment is to discuss the form that has been sent to you to fill out with as much details regarding your symptoms and problems you are facing and to do the test itself. The second appointment is to discuss the results (usually after 10 days of taking the test) at this time suggestions of change will be given. The third final appointment will be after 6 weeks but within 12 weeks to discuss your progress and how you have found the changes and discuss challenges you are facing, if any and how to progress from here. At this stage you can chose to see Don, ad hoc as and when you want for nutritional follow-ups which cost £35.00 recommended is to discuss a food diary every 6-8 weeks.

If you feel more comfortable having a nurse visit your home to take bloods – that option would be available for additional cost of £40.00.
